World Affairs Council Home Hospitality Pgm - A TRUE Cross-Cultural Experience

When you cannot travel overseas, but yet you desire a cross-cultural experience, where do you go in Arizona?  As a Member of World Affairs Council of Arizona, I received a call to host four Japanese Journalists for dinner at our home! The answer was, YES, indeed!

Though I had done business on and off in Japan for ten years, and my husband Gary and I had traveled there two years ago, we had a TON of FUN with the four Japanese Journalists who visited Phoenix this week on behalf of 2008 Japan-U.S. Journalists Exchange.  The four accomplished gentlemen whose trip was sponsored by the East-West Center (www.EastWestCenter.org) were extremely dynamic, open-minded, curious and enjoyable.  What a pleasure it was to truly "blend our two cultures" and create a very memorable and enlightening experience.

Roka Akor in Scottsdale - the first of many to come in the US!

Delicious in every way...the service, the food, the ambience and of course the fact Roka Akor opened its FIRST restaurant in the U.S. in Scottsdale - other US cities will follow!  For someone like my husband and myself who LOVE global cuisine anywhere in the world, we are happy to see this 7,500 sf restaurant is home to a wide audience of other global cuisine enthusiasts!  And what a great place for a private lunch or dinner meeting of up to 20 people in the private dining room.

Roka Akor is a big favorite on my website where you will find hundreds of global ethnic cuisines throughout Arizona: www.GLOBALArizona.com/food_cuisine.html

PS. Enjoy some great cocktails there too!  Kim

International Women's Day Lunch Celebration

Jahaziel_lepita_kim_at_intl_womens_ Last week, The City of Phoenix hosted their 17th annual International Women's Day Celebration at the Phoenix Convention Center. Wow, was I ever surprised to find 1,400 in attendance to celebrate Women of Courage. This was my first time attending this event and based on the excellent keynote speaker, Martha Beck, I will surely be attending this each year!

The International Parade of Flags was very patriotic and especially when seeing Arizona residents carry their native flag, often in their native dress. My table was another delightful surprise and my new friends, City of Phoenix Management Intern Jahaziel Linare and his mother, Lepita (pictured above).

Best-selling author and life coach and frequent guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Martha Beck summed it up by reminding us to ask ourselves, "Joy is beauty felt and that victory will go to one who knows how to yield.  As a Global Enthusiast, I celebrate my new found appreciation of Arizona growing a GLOBAL personality!  Congratulations, City of Phoenix and Honorary Co-chairs, Sue Glawe and Kristine Hedlund.
